TCRA Board Chairman, Dr Jones Kilembe launched the second phase of the campaign in Dar es Salaam, yesterday, which is aimed at emphasising on the safe and better utilisation of social media for online media e.g. online TV, radio and bloggers as well as the general public.
Before the launch of the campaign which was preceded by online media owners’ workshop, Dr Kilembe revealed that due to communication technology advancement, the use of social media has increased dramatically in the country, attracting many people including professional and non-professional communicators resulting in the emergence of various challenges such as unethical use.
“Currently, we have over 50 online TV and over 150 blogs and due to the advancement of communications technology, the introduction of smartphones has made content control more complicated and that’s why TCRA emphasises on close supervision for the benefit of the country development socially, economically and politically,” he disclosed.
Dr Kilembe also revealed that TCRA is well equipped with modern equipment and manpower so as to go hand in hand with technological advancement and to ensure safe and better use of social media and other communication services in the country.
