Oil & Gas Companies Donate Medical Supplies And PPE Worth TZS 383 Million To National Effort To Combat COVID-19 Pandemic In Tanzania


A group of Independent Oil & Gas Companies (IOCs) currently operating in the Country, in partnership with TPDC and with the assistance of TPSF jointly support the initiative led by His Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Jointly, we have donated medical supplies including personal protective equipment and other medical goods deemed necessary to maximize the country’s capacity to respond and manage the suspected cases of COVID-19.

The pledges totaling TZS 383 Million were made to the Minister of Health, the Honourable Ummy Mwalimu, today, at National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Dar es Salaam as follows:
·      Mnazi-Bay Partners: TZS 220 million, made up of donations from: 
o   TPDC: TZS 20 million, 
o   Maurel & Prom Tanzania Ltd:  TZS 100 million 
o   Wentworth Gas Ltd: TZS 100 million
·      Shell and Block 1/4 Partners: TZS 93 million 
·      Pan African Energy Tanzania: TZS 70 million 
On 26th March 2020 (reference PA. 87/266/10/36) the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly, and Children appealed for support from the private sector and Government Institutions, to strengthen in-country logistics capacity and better control the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The donations will be made separately by each company and demonstrate a commitment to support the initiatives of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to combat the spread of the COVID-19 Virus within Tanzania. 
The medical supplies will be provided in appropriate batches for distribution in accordance with national priorities to tackle the pandemic.
