PRESIDENT
Lungu joined soccer fans to watch the junior Chipolopolo boys taking Egypt
today in a formality match after successfully beating Guenea and Mali thereby
qualifying to the second round.
However, today was the day late former Republican President Chiluba’s
wife Regina was buried while the President opted to stay away from the burrial
but attended a soccer match.
LUNGU who flew into the country yesterday from Izrael decided to
‘give support’ to the junior Chipolopolo over the burial of Regina Mwanza
Chiluba.
She died last Sunday due to cervical cancer she had been
battling with for sometime now.
The absence of President Lungu at the burial of Regina has not
gone well with some people who say the Head of State should have chosen to
attend the burial than go and watch a match especially that the junior
Chipolopolo boys have already qualified.
One socialite wrote “this shows that our president is not
sensitive, he chose a luxury over bereavement. What do you expect from a
chakolwa?”
Meanwhile, other notable opposition leaders such as Peter
Sinkamba, Elias Chipimo, Edith Nawakwi, Hakainde Hichilema and his vice
Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba were present at the burial of Regina at Memorial park,
Leopards Hill burial site.
However, Lungu has not attended even the funeral of Regina since she passed away as he
spent almost the whole week in Izrael on five days visit to that country.
On 26 February, Lungu wrote on his official facebook page that he was saddened by the death of
Regina Chiluba.
He
said her passing on was a blow to the country as well as to the womanfolk.
